A lot has been written about google trying to develop a new operating system (known off the record as GooOS), which would be hosted by a super computer in which anybody could have an account, access it through the Internet and carry out all kinds of daily tasks…does this represent the end of the normal distribution of operating systems as we know it Does this mean that we will no longer need to go to a store to buy our new version of MS Windows

During the past years, Google has focused its efforts on developing a totally innovative software distribution platform. It has been working on being ready to offer the world all the packages of necessary utilities…for free. It all started with Gmail, one of the first e-mail hosts to offer more than 1GB of storage capacity. As the storage capacity of my email started increasing, I stopped worrying about the extent of its growth or if I was ever going to top it off.

Not happy with that, Google now offers us a whole lot more: Google Desktop, a powerful tool to index the contents of our hard drive (yes, it works a lot better than the funny looking dog that hosts file searches on Windows XP); there is also Google Maps which allows us to travel to and look up practically any location around the World; and if we want to go further, we can edit and build things in this virtual World with Google SketchUp.

Let continue with our list of applications…Google Calendar is an application designed to keep a complete online record of one life. Though it is still on its Beta version, it offers reminders with images, scheduling of events, and it even allows you to send automatic reminders via SMS. There is instant messaging with Google Talk, it is possible to create web sites with Pages Creator…and the list goes on and on…with Writely (bought by Google for a couple dollars), you have the first online suite of office programs that does not use up space on your hard drive and even allows you to save your work as pdf files and share them so they can be complemented by anyone. If this weren’t enough, now you can even purchase online through Google Checkout, as an alternative to PayPal.

Google is basically growing together with the Internet, and it is practically at the point of being able to offer users all the applications that they might need in their computers…for free. The missing part in this puzzle to simply and definitely forget about Microsoft is an operating platform. A tool that could be used for this purpose might be the Secure Global Desktop Software by Sun, which allows users to generate a remote desktop via internet and to run “cross platformapplications. All of this at a very low hardware cost, something that goes hand in hand with Google hardware policy which privileges a lower cost per CPU cycle over more specialized hardware that is therefore, more expensive.

So what does Google get from all these free offerings First of all, due to the lower associated costs, it drives users from Microsoft to its new system, and then there is advertising revenues generated from “customizedadvertising, and of course the fees charged for “PremiumProducts.

We are definitely facing a very complex scenario. As long as Microsoft continues to delay the launch of Windows Vista, we will keep on seeing Google come up with new products and services. Google is only lacking an operating system in order to provide us with complete package and by doing so, placing itself in a privileged position on the run for dominion of the personal computer market.

Finally, what can we expect from all of this Certainly, the outcome of this battle is still a couple years down the road…maybe Windows Vista is the last one of Microsoft operating systems…or maybe not…what is truly important is that for the time being, as time goes by, new alternatives are rising and it is important that they consolidate in order to become a real contribution to technology. If Google were to finally to bring down Microsoft empire with a new operating system, it would only be a matter of time…however, it would be important not to go from one monopoly to another one, but to have various alternatives to choose from that are efficient and result in a true and creative contribution to the development of even better technologies.

Creating your slideshows can be fun for everyone. Understanding a little bit about color can make a difference. You can do a lot to make them more entertaining and enjoyable. Several programs can help you do that. With just a few simple additions you can turn a bland set of pictures into a dynamic and entertaining program.

Creating your own slide shows can be fun and entertaining, and easy to accomplish. Almost every digital camera now comes with some sort of software to manage your images. Some have more features than others. Some will allow you to create slideshows. Some will add transitions, and allow image durations to be adjusted. You can also use most video making programs to produce slideshows, which is one way to have more control over the outcome. For example, Windows XP offers MovieMaker, which has many of the functions of a full-blown video producer program. The program allows you to set the duration of each picture, the transition between each picture; offers various effects to apply to individual pictures, and allows you to overlay an audio track.

To start, I have found that most digital images need a little adjustment for viewing on monitors. If your program allows it, I recommend increasing both the brightness and contrast just a few notches. Also, if you can, sharpen them slightly. A note about color: colors come in two categories: transparent and opaque. When you prepare images for printing or for viewing on a monitor you must consider how colors interact with each other. Printed colors, when mixed together, go towards black. Projected colors, when mixed together, go towards white. Printed images are usually produced on equipment with a much higher resolution capability than your monitor, so they will appear richer and sharper in print. Most cameras are preset for printing, and that why it a good idea to sharpen, brighten and increase the contrast on images to be viewed on the pc.

Selecting your images and ordering them are the next important step. It is best to try and tell a story, to have a logical sequence to your images. Don’t show people going in the house before the shot of them getting out of the car. When you are taking pictures, remember that you may make a slide show, and try to take pictures that will present well in that style; for instance, in a room full of people , start at one side and take many pictures as you swing across to the other side of the room. When presented as slides, it will give the effect of creating the complete environment. Vary the duration of the slides; don’t make them all 3 or 5 seconds, make some shorter and some longer. If there one person in a picture, shorten it; if there are many people then lengthen it so people have a chance to look at every face.

Once you have assembled the slideshow and applied transitions and effects, you can put the crowning touch on by adding a narration. You can simply choose some favorite or appropriate music, but to really personalize it, a narration is best. Not everyone is a natural speaker, nor does everyone have the most recordable voice for such a purpose. How to choose the appropriate data type
SQL Server stores data in data pages that are 8Kb (8192 bytes) in size. The system uses some of that s Sometimes, the system uses only 8060 bytes are availableto that are available to store user’s data. Consider the size of a row of data in your tables. If the rows are large, make sure that multiples of the fit conveniently on a data page so that page space is not wasted. This is cut down on disk paging overhead when accessing the data. You want to maximize the number of rows of data which that will fit on a page. This can be accomplished both by splitting the tables, and by choosing the smallest data type which that will accommodate your data. .

In you are using integer data, data; consider that the tinyint datatype will accommodate data which that will fit into one byte of storage. So if the range of all of the data in your field (or variable) is between 0 and 255, use the tinyint datatype. If the range is between -32,768 and 32,767, use the smallint data type. And if If you need to store integer data from -2,147,483,648 through 2,147,483,647, use int data type.

Similarly with smallmoney. If smallmoney. if your value range is between -214748.3648 and 214,748.3647, use the smallmoney datatype.

Use smalldatetime data type instead of datetime data type, if you need to store the date and time data from January 1, 1900 through June 6, 2079, with accuracy to the minute.

Prefer varchar.nvarchar to text/ntext whenever possible because the text and image fields are stored separately, which produces additional paging. And prefer char/varchar to nchar/nvarchar data types because the n types require twice as much storage space. The n types are used primarily for unicode data.
